The Octavius Regional Civil Engineering (RCE) team are busy behind the scenes getting themselves match fit ready to kick off their new Somerset County Council New Assets Framework next month.

The Octavius team will deliver highway improvement schemes, including safety and traffic calming measures, infrastructure associated with active travel, electric vehicles, public transport, and mobility hubs.

Octavius RCE’s Contracts Manager for the South West, Nick Brooks, provides an insight into RCE’s New Assets Framework mobilisation as Nick and his team get ready to hit the ground running at the start of April.

Nick highlights that Octavius RCE are fortunate to have strengthened their existing team with two key new colleagues transferring from the previous incumbent contractor. These new appointments will bring a wealth of local knowledge of Somerset’s highway assets and key stakeholder and community relationships to complement Ocatvius RCE established wider technical, management and lean working expertise.

RCE are working alongside Somerset CC’s representatives on two major schemes and through this involvement RCE will identify opportunities to add value, minimise project risk, reduce cost, time and disruption to Somerset CC’s highways users, residents, and business neighbours.

These early pre-start activities include a vital improvement project to an existing high risk junction at Minors Arms, an intersection between Plumbers Lane and Old Bristol Road, anticipated to start in April, and preparation for a shared cycle path/footway scheme in Bridgewater.

Nick added that Octavius RCE are well on schedule in our preparations. We are looking forward to making an effective and efficient start to this contract. Looking ahead we will strive to always make an impactful contribution to Somerset’s carbon reduction and climate change objectives, create opportunities to develop local talent and skills and work collaboratively with Somerset’s other appointed partners in the best interest of the people of Somerset and their highways users.
