A key pillar of our culture is to learn, grow and thrive. It’s an approach we apply at every level of our business – from strategic decision making to the career development of each of our people.
Why? Because standing still and attempting to apply yesterday’s answers to tomorrow’s problems just won’t work.
Developing our learn, grow and thrive culture means we must all embrace the habit of intentional learning.
Recognise What You Don’t Know, then do Something About it
According to McKinsey, leading psychologists state that intentional learning is a key differentiator for successful people and companies. It depends on two key mindsets: growth and curiosity.
A growth mindset is the opposite of the self-limiting ‘fixed’ mindset. It’s the difference between saying ‘I’m learning how to swim’ and ‘I can’t swim’. With a growth mindset it’s not a sign of weakness or failure to admit that there are things you don’t know. That’s true for all of us. It’s what we do about it.
The curiosity mindset isn’t afraid of new ideas or the unknown and likes to challenge conventional thinking. The difference here is between saying ‘how has this been done in the past?’ and ‘what’s the best way to do this that we can think of?’
In our industry this is vital. No two projects are the same. Demands are constantly changing. We welcome that reality.
Building the Culture
To really embrace intentional learning and truly learn, grow, and thrive we must nurture the right organisational culture. One where constructive challenge is welcomed and encouraged; where our people are empowered and supported to take the initiative in developing their skills and careers.
With intentional learning and personal growth our business and people will thrive. Innovation, problem solving and developing new capabilities become the norm, what we do.
