Connected Communities

The places we work in should be stronger for it.

Infrastructure investment changes communities. Done well, it creates jobs, attracts businesses, improves health and gives people a sense that their place matters. Octavius delivers — and stays to make sure the benefit is real.

Construction as community investment

Most infrastructure contractors build things and leave. Octavius takes a different view. Every project is an opportunity to invest in the community it serves; through local employment, supply chain spend, apprenticeships, partnerships with local organisations and a genuine commitment to leaving the place better than we found it.

That is not a nice-to-have. It is a measurable commitment, tracked through our Thrive social value platform and reported publicly. In 2025–26, we delivered over £116 million in independently assessed social value — 32.5% of our annual turnover — across employment and skills, local supply chain spend, community investment and environmental improvements.

Manchester Victoria North East Gateway - a community at the centre

The Victoria North East Gateway project in Manchester is a clear example of what community-centred infrastructure delivery looks like. Alongside the physical works: new cycleways, improved crossings, resurfaced streets, the Octavius team prioritised local employment, partnered with Mustard Tree to support people into work, invested £2,000 in digital inclusion through the Manchester City Council initiative, supported MCR Active health and wellbeing initiatives, donated to the Manchester Seed Library and contributed to the Read MCR literacy festival. The infrastructure improved the streets. The approach improved the community.

Charfield - giving a community its railway back

Charfield in Gloucestershire had been without a station for more than 40 years. The new station, delivered by Octavius, reconnected a community to the rail network, opened up new travel options for residents, and created a focal point for the village's continued growth. Transport investment as an act of community restoration.
