£27 million highway scheme reaches major milestone for Essex County Council and the Colchester community

Octavius is proud to announce the successful completion and opening of Phase 1 of the A1331 Link Road in Colchester, delivered on behalf of Essex County Council.

The £27 million infrastructure scheme has been completed on programme and within budget, providing a significant enhancement to the local transport network and supporting future growth across the region.

The opening of the new link road marks a major milestone in the project and reflects the collaborative efforts of Essex County Council, project partners, stakeholders and the Octavius delivery team.

Paul Browne, Project Director at Octavius, said:

“The successful completion of Phase 1 of the A1331 Link Road is a fantastic achievement for everyone involved. Delivering a project of this scale safely, on time and on budget demonstrates the strength of collaboration between our team, Essex County Council and our supply chain partners.

“We are proud to have delivered infrastructure that will provide long-term benefits for local communities, improve connectivity and support economic growth across Colchester and the wider region.”

Throughout the construction programme, Octavius worked closely with Essex County Council, local residents, businesses and stakeholders to minimise disruption while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and environmental performance.

The scheme has involved the construction of new highway infrastructure designed to improve future traffic flow, increase network resilience and support planned residential and commercial development. The project also created opportunities for local employment, apprenticeships, work experience and engagement with schools and community groups throughout the construction period, delivering more than £6.5m worth of social value across Essex.

As a leading UK infrastructure contractor, Octavius remains committed to delivering projects that create lasting value for clients, communities and the environment.

Gavin Pritchard, Managing Director Highways added:

“At Octavius, our purpose is to create, improve and protect the places where people live, work and travel. The A1331 Link Road is an excellent example of how investment in infrastructure can unlock opportunities and improve journeys for thousands of people every day.”

Octavius would like to thank Essex County Council, local stakeholders, supply chain partners and the wider community for their support and cooperation throughout the delivery of the project.
