The Institute of Engineering Technology (IET), Stevenage, needed additional parking capacity, electric vehicle (EV) charging and secure bike storage and facilities to support on-going growth
This modular parking and transport hub solution plays its small part in enabling IET to fulfil its vision to engineer a better world, by engaging and inspiring people where engineering and technology are key to solving many of the biggest challenges facing us today.
No piled foundations
The reduction to one deck and the use of our clear span modular system meant a simple ring beam foundation could be used.
Green features included
As well as EV chargers and cycle storage, a ‘green wall was designed to entwine climbing plants and increase biodiversity.
Increased capacity, fast approval and reduced cost
Using our solution, just one deck achieved 209 spaces which received quick planning approval, and saved more than 50% in cost compared to the original four-level design.
Reduced visual impact on surrounding environment
Improvements to natural lighting to adjacent buildings, LED lighting to the parking facilities and landscaping works ensured the facility could enhance the surrounding environment.
Flexible and future-proof
The innovative modular design will allow the IET to flex their travel and transport solution with the addition/removal of a recyclable (95%) solution and a provision for further EV charging to be installed.
